Clark County Combined Health District

Daniel S. Chatfield, RS, MSEH is the Director of Environmental Health at the Clark County Combined Health District.  He is responsible for managing the operations of the Environmental Health Division and supervising division employees. He is constantly amazed at the depth and breadth of knowledge among the Clark County Combined Health District staff.

Mr. Chatfield has over thirty-nine years of public health experience at the local and state level in Ohio . He managed the Ohio Department of Health program that created the Ohio Poison Control Network which is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year by calling 1-800-222-1222.  Dan crafted the proposal for the childhood lead poisoning prevention bill that became Ohio Revised Code Chapter 3742. He managed over $9.0 million in federal grant programs while with the Ohio Department of Health.  He has a Masters of Environmental Health degree from East Tennessee State University and is a Registered Sanitarian in the State of Ohio .  Dan was selected Sanitarian of the Year by the Ohio Environmental Health Association in 1997.  He served on the Board of Directors of that statewide organization as Secretary and as Treasurer.

His philosophy of public service is reflected in his favorite quote by Edmund Burke, the British statesman and philosopher (1729-1797), “Those who carry on great public schemes must be proof against the most fatiguing delays, the most mortifying disappointments, the most shocking insults, and what is worst of all, the presumptuous judgments of the ignorant.”

Dan is active in his church and presently serves as Secretary of the Trustee Ministry team at Columbia Heights United Methodist Church in Columbus .  He participated in the planning and design of their new 33,000 square foot Church and Family Life Center which will opened in the fall of 2007.

He is married to his wife Candy of 42 years and they have three grown daughters: Heather, Amy and Meghan.  They have four granddaughters: Morgan and Emma Rywalski and Isabelle and Payton Sayre.

Dan enjoys playing with his four grandchildren, his Golden Retrievers Rusty and Grace, gardening, snow skiing, photography and wine making.
